Headshot of Tess

I specialize in custom
web design and development for small businesses. No page builders. No bloat. Just clean, hand-written, responsive code, thoughtfully tailored to your needs.

HOW IT WORKS

INITIAL DISCUSSION

We have a conversation so that I can get a decent sense of what you're looking for, and you can get a sense of who I am and how I operate. Afterward I'll be able to offer you a solution strategy that best fits your needs.

At this stage I'm happy to engage over the course of multiple conversations so that we both have a chance to think on things and make decisions confidently. For subsequent prototype, design, and development stages I provide a fixed number of iterations, which we'll agree upon before proceeding.

PROTOTYPING

I make a lo-fi, black and white design prototype that conveys layout and user flow based on you and your target audience's needs and characteristics. Once we nail down structure, we can move on to hi-fi design.

DESIGN

I create high fidelity designs of 2-3 sections or pages of your site, depending on overall project complexity, that best convey a finished look and we discuss them. As with the lo-fi prototype, I'll make up to an agreed upon number of iterations based on your feedback.

This stage confirms that we're on the same page before development begins. If you've got content and/or copy for me to use, this is when we'll dial in what goes where.

DEVELOPMENT

The particulars of this stage are subjective to the complexity of the project, but in general it's where I build the thing! In the interest of you having ownership of your site from day one, you'll create an account with a hosting service and grant me access.

If this sounds too techy, don't worry, I'll walk you through the process and advise which hosting service and plan best suits your needs.

Once the account is set up, I'll be able to use the hosting service to share previews of your live, functioning site before it's public, in order to facilitate testing and feedback.

As with prior design stages I'll make up to an agreed upon number of edits, after which an extra change-order fee will apply.

DEPLOYMENT

It's launch time, baby! Once the build is complete and we're both satisfied that everything looks and works like it should, I'll deploy to your publicly accessible URL. I'll make sure you have all the info and know-how you need to continue accessing your hosting account.

ONGOING SUPPORT

Depending on your comfort level and projected needs, I offer varying options for ongoing support. Examples include updating content, fixing things that can break over time like external links, accomodating evolving accessibility standards, optimizing assets, or renewing hosting subscriptions.
